The Great Smokies

Some views from Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Cades Cove
Laurel Falls
Log cabin of one of the settlers in Cades Cove, early 1800s. The settlers shared these parts of the Appalachian Mountains with the Cherokee.
A mountain wedding!
View from the hike on part of the Appalachian Trail. It is one of the longest unbroken footpaths in the world, running from Georgia to Maine. Some hardy souls hike the entire trail in one season. Amazing.
For me, I hiked 4 miles of the trail from New Found Gap to Charlie's Bunion. Only 1,968 miles to go till Maine....
Water-powered mill that's still operating today
Abrams Falls
A lot of folks I talked to said they saw black bears. Besides the clouds of gnats, bugs and flies, this was the only wildlife I saw.

Forward to the Lowcountry!

  1. Uhhh count yourself lucky that a deer is all you saw! What would you do if you made eye contact with a bear?!?!?!?!
